Centering Prayer

  • CCJ Office 5201 Alabama Avenue Nashville, TN, 37209 United States (map)

Contemplation is nothing else than a secret and peaceful and loving inflow of God, which, if not hampered, fires the soul in the spirit of love. - St. John of the Cross

Centering Prayer is a silent prayer in which we experience God's presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself. The practice begins with an opening meditation followed by 25 minutes of silence, so each gathering will take about 30 minutes. Center for Contemplative Justice is sponsoring a weekly Centering Prayer group at 9 am in the CCJ office, 5201 Alabama Ave. All are invited. No experience or long term commitment necessary. For more information, please contact, Scott Owings.

“In Centering Prayer, we acknowledge God as the supreme source from which flows all strength, all goodness, all existence, acknowledging that we have our being, life, itself from Love. One can then communicate with this sacred space, worship it, and ultimately place one's very center in it.” (Cynthia Bourgeault)
