Formation Classes 11 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. at the A-Frame Chapel, 2308 Vanderbilt Place #D, 37212
Adult Forum gathers in the A-Frame sanctuary for “Desires of your Heart” series for Faith and Food with Rev. Dr. Kate Fields
We will focus on how our food and faith can intersect as we look at the Middle Tennessee food system and how we can be an important contributor to it as a faith community. This class will include visiting farms in the area, meeting farmers, eating local food and taking Communion together. With the challenges of land in Middle TN being quickly developed for housing and commercial interests as well as rising farming input expenses, Middle TN farmers need support as they care for the land and grow nutritious food that supports the local food system. Additionally, food insecurity is pervasive in Nashville and surrounding areas. Christian faith communities within Middle TN have a myriad of volunteer, land, infrastructure, and financial resources to care for the land, care for folks experiencing food insecurity, support farmers, and invest in the local food system. Through this holy work, we can engage in faithful discipleship, caring for God’s creation! Families are welcome to join this class, especially the field trips!
Rev. Dr. Kate Fields serves at Belmont United Methodist Church, just down 21st Avenue from St. A's! She comes from a family which has lived in Tennessee for several generations and deeply loves the Tennessee hills. She is a biologist turned pastor and finds much meaning in connecting our food and our faith.
